AMAR NEWS # 41 ANMOL DIWALI DHAMAKA – 2017

24th of October 2017 was a much awaited day in the lives of nearly 700 children at Risk. The ANMOL centre is a centre for youth at risk (YaR) particularly for girl children. It caters to the orphans, semi orphans, slum children, pavement dwellers in Bombay.Anmol embraced each of them like a dear mother. ‘Deep Rangoli hai, DIWALI ki shaan, bacche hai parivar ka maan’ (Children are the honour of the family). The theme was wisely coined, as this year is dedicated to the family. This unique event was held at Mazzarello Youth Centre, Auxilium School campus, Wadala, Bombay. More than 60 young people walked at MYC- Wadala as volunteers to reach out to the poor and the marginalized ones. The volunteers were our own Salesian Cooperators, students from our skill training centre, Wadala, ex girls from Shelter Home, Navi Mumbai,  Auxilium past pupils, students from colleges, candidates from the Formation House, Lonavla and the Sisters from our various houses . All worked tirelessly to make it extraordinary day to each of them.

Children were warmly welcomed, served breakfast and offered stall games with attractive prizes.  For this year Diwali Dhamaka , Sr. Rita D’Souza, the Provincial Economer of the MM Mumbai province was the chief guest for the day, Professor Dr. RSS Mani, the benefactor and Mrs. Elinor Mirza ,  the generous donor, Sr. Teresa Dharmaraj FMA, Sr. Meenakshi D’Silva FMA, were the honoured guests for the occasion. Sr. Magdeline Sequeira, the Provincial Councillor and the directress of Anmol welcomed the guests and felicitated each of them. She took special notice of Sr. Moksha Mary Anthonappa who was the main person behind the great event. An entertaining programme was staged by the children of the different NGOs who are connected with Anmol. The dances were truly a feast for the eyes of those present.

Sumptuous lunch was served by Mr. Jayesh and team from Don Bosco Past Pupils Association.  After lunch an awareness programme was organized by Sahayini Social development Society on the importance of Family and its values for adolescent girls.   Resource person Sr. Teresa Joseph FMA through short films and interaction made the session – Importance of family and its values meaningful.

After lunch creative activities like nail painting, mehendi, and hairstyle were the attractions for all the girl children, while others danced to the different tunes.  This was followed by the tele games conducted by RVR Company under the able leadership of Mr. Rajan. Children were showered with lots of prizes after each game.  During the day children enjoyed gola, candyfloss, Chinese bhel as and when they desired.

Finally after the common dance on the ground, the winners of poster competition were given prizes and Sr. Anita Tairipascu gave a final message on Family. The programme came to an end with the distribution of Diwali gift and snacks. A bag with stationary items was gifted to each child at this Anmol Diwali Dhamaka. We thank all our benefactors, staff of Anmol and volunteers.
