AMAR NEWS # 6 Media Smart Club in the peripheries

AMAR Media Smart Club 2016 5

Media Smart Club has been a yearly feature for a few years now at Mazzarello Youth Centre. But this year it was held ‘with a difference’. Paying heed to the words of our beloved Holy Father and the suggestions of our General Chapter, we decided to move out into the ‘peripheries’.

Along with the elite students who registered their names for the Media Smart Club, Sr. Hilda, Sr. Melissa, Sr. Smitha and Sr. Gemma made their way to two different locations for three days each. Our first destination was under the Wadala Bridge, at the railway station. The second location was near Ambedkar College. At both these spots we gathered the poor children of the locality and organised various games for them. We went all prepared with our small sound system through which we made our presence even more attractive. We gave them an opportunity to dance to their hearts content. We also held a drawing competition for them and gave them a good message before we left. This went on for six days.

On the last day of our Club, we invited them to our campus and made them feel at ease in our hall. Here again, the students put up a small skit before them making them aware of the need to protect and educate the ‘girl child’. We then divided them into groups and played interesting games with them. The last item was the prize distribution. Many of the poor children were glad to receive prizes. They were all given a vada pav before they left for their homes. Each of the days spent there on the streets were indeed happy and memorable days not only for them, but also for us sisters and the other children who felt happy that they got this opportunity to serve the poor.
